Over the years, you may have come across images (online or in printed materials) of flags appearing on saguaros. These images are not the result of AI, but the work of a designer who began creating them more than twenty years ago. 

On this site you can explore a selection of mixed-media artwork that combines photography with flag designs. In the beginning, each flag was carefully resized, cut by hand, glued onto photographs, and then retouched so it would blend naturally with the shape of the saguaro. As technology evolved, the hand-glued process transitioned into a hand-crafted digital technique. While computers made it easier to scale the designs, the process still requires careful, almost painterly work to match every curve of the cactus and properly fit each flag.

What started simply as a fun creative experiment gradually grew into something much bigger. People began requesting the designs for catalogs and websites, and even major American organizations, such as the National Italian American Foundation, asked the artist/designer to feature his distinctive and imaginative artwork.

More recently, thanks to their originality, these designs have appeared on a variety of Amazon products, including bags, water bottles, and phone accessories.

The project originally began under the brand name Ciao Arizona, combining Italian and American flags, and later expanded into Hello Arizona as well.
